The Sheperds Cottage is located on the road to Glen Affric and is perfectly situated as a base to explore the local hills.

 

Glen Affric boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the Scottish Highlands and benefits from well maintained trails managed by the Forestry Commission.  There are numerous marked trails throughout the area suiting all levels of fitness and enthusiasm.

 

The area has long been popular with walkers and hosts no fewer than 32 of the Munroes, (Scotland's highest mountains).  For the more adventurous the "West to East Coast Walk" provides some challenging walking.

 

Local attractions include: Golf at Aigas, Nairn and Muir of Ord, riding and ponytrekking at Drumnadrochit, whisky distilleries at Muir of Ord and Tomatin, a deer farm at Struy and dolphin watching in the Cromarty Firth.

 

A wide range of famous and historic attractions are within easy reach including the castles of  Urquhart, Dunrobin, Brodie and Cawdor and Fort George and the battle field of Culloden.
